Today's reading: Num. 24-27; 1 Cor. 13
In 1 Corinthians 13 Paul is reminding the church of what love truly is. The love Paul is describing is a sacrificial love, a love that puts others first. It is a supernatural love. It trumps all other spiritual gifts in that they are an imperfect picture of Christ. Even great faith, prophesy or knowledge are described by Paul as like seeing "a poor reflection in a mirror." Love, on the other hand, is perfect and truly makes us like Christ.
Lord, Thank you for your love for us. Teach us to love like you did when you gave up your son for our sins. Help us to lay down our own desires and to love others unselfishly. Amen.
